Bulking Season Recap  In beach volleyball, there are three seasons: Pre-season training, Competition season, and BULKING SEASON.  Bulking season is without question, the most important season. In my opinion, the other two seasons are dumb and don’t matter at all.  After the last tournament of the competitive season is over, it’s time to bulk up before getting into great shape for the next summer.  Bulking season lasted almost three months for me. I was in maximum bulking mode for all of October, November, and most of December. I went from just under 200 lbs. to an all time high of 224lbs. I will tell you how I did this is the next couple paragraphs.    If you want to bulk, you have to lift and put on muscle. If you do not lift and you put on a bunch of weight, then you are just getting fat. Bulking is great because you can eat extreme amounts of food and put on tons of weight and just tell everybody that you are bulking. I ate at our buffet style dining hall three times every single day. You have to eat as much as you possibly can ate very meal. When you don’t think that you can eat anymore, keep going. After you kept going and you really don’t think you can eat anymore, turn to baked goods. There is always more room for baked goods. When I was extremely full and did not think that I could eat anymore, I would challenge people to baked good seating competitions. You are always a winner as long as you eat all the food in the challenge. If you have to throw up, do it with pride. The biggest thing that holds people back from bulking is “Appetite.” I do not believe in the word "Appetite.” Appetite is just a  metaphor for limitation. There is no such thing as being “full”. If you try to spell the word “full” backwards, it comes out to FEAR.Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines the word “full” as “the inability to be areal man.”    Inters of lifting, bulking really just comes down to doing biceps and making sure that you are taking enough protein. The only muscle group that I worked during bulking season was biceps. I would occasionally lift chest when my biceps needed rest. I would do 13 straight days in the gym of just biceps, and do chest on the 14th day because my biceps tendonitis would get so bad that I could not even curl my protein shakes up to my mouth. But hell, NO PAIN NO GAIN. Studies show that the body can only digest 40 grams of protein in one sitting. That is total nonsense. Studies also said that the earth is round instead of flat, and we all know that isn’t true. The guy that came up with the 40 grams of protein study is probably the guy in the corner of the gym doing calf raises while reading Cosmo girl magazine. My independent study proves that the body can digest a minimum of1600 grams of protein in one sitting. I found it extremely beneficial to fill up a jug of protein powder half way full of protein and half way full of water, and go to town on that. They don’t make mixer bottles nearly large enough for the amounts of protein that you need to be taking in.  I hope that you all learned a lot from this post. Following these guidelines will ensure a productive bulking season. Ladies love a guy with some bulk on. Really get into bulking season. It can be beneficial to take on a bulking alter ego such as “Brent Bulk” or “Pete Protein.” Lastly, there will be haters. Just pretend these haters are strips of bacon and eat them at every single meal.Best of luck to all.
